Here at Breakfast At Dominique’s, various topics pique our interest. While the first entry of this series was on vintage recipe recreation videos, this one is all about podcasts – audio format conversations that can entertain and educate for hours on end. Podcasts have seemingly taken over the sea of content forms and flooded the plains. In a way, they resemble the radio shows some or most of America grew up listening to.
Multiple podcasts have captured our attention over the past few months ranging in themes from pop culture to Old Hollywood to comedy. Continue reading for a rundown on just which podcasts have our seal of approval and are completely worth a listen!
Trashy Divorces: A podcast hosted by Alicia and Stacie, this piece of audio art is self-described as “a comedic ride through stories of marital misconduct and love gone wrong.” Focused heavily on the relationships within both past and present pop culture, Trashy Divorces gives that often craved dose of gossip to get you through the monotonous routines you’re often stuck in throughout the week.
Done & Dunne: The second project of Trashy Divorces host, Alicia, Done & Dunne is more specific to the Golden Age of Hollywood and everyone connected to the writings and life of author, Dominick Dunne. If the spiderwebs connecting every single person who has existed in Hollywood interests you, this is absolutely the podcast for you!
You Must Remember This: A favorite amongst fans of classic Hollywood, the You Must Remember This podcast builds seasons upon a theme and digs deep into the crevices of culture to engross each listener into the designated time period in a unique way.
The Confused Breakfast: The Spotify description of this podcast starts as “a nostalgic journey back to the movie rental store era…,” and that sums it up quite well. This podcast is 3 friends who have clearly known each other for a long time rewatching nostalgic films and discussing them. One word to describe it – comforting.
Ticklish Business: An Old Hollywood podcast with three incredibly knowledgable and passionate hosts, this is a podcast perfect for any cinema fanatic. They’ve covered topics pertaining to most of the Golden Age’s stars including our coffee icon, Jean Harlow, and even a recent episode on Marilyn Monroe featuring a guest host who’s iconic in her own right, Holly Madison.
Calling Old Hollywood: What can we say… we’ve got friends in podcasting places… and Calling Old Hollywood host, Kat Lively, is a lovely addition to the media format. A show featuring actors, comedians, coffee company owners (yep, there’s an episode all about us!), and the family members of Hollywood legends, the main goal of this podcast is to bring the wonderful world of Old Hollywood to a new generation.
Not Past It: An absolute daydream of the average obscure history lover, Not Past It, covers historical events that happened during that exact week in history and how each one shaped life today.
Dark History: We all know history isn’t as clean-cut and concise as it’s taught in school. Dark History and its host, Bailey Sarian, satiate that need for the real story and share historical instances that there is little chance of you hearing about otherwise. Fun fact, there is a crow somewhere in the setting of this recording studio named after our beloved coffee icon, Joan Crawford.
2 Bears, 1 Cave: If you love comedy, there is no world in which this will not be the most enjoyable podcast in existence for you. Hosts Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer are real-life best friends and successful comedians bringing the perfect dynamic to weekly conversations.
Gaslights: Gaslights is a new podcast to the scene featuring conversations with all forms of interesting figures from actors to the descendants of serial killers. There are only 3 episodes up so far, but each episode is so different from the last in terms of theme. Eclectic souls will definitely dig this one.
Shut Up Evan: A pop culture podcast focusing heavily on the icons of the 1990s and 2000s, and the current figures within culture working on their “icon” status. Shut Up Evan, hosted by Evan Ross Katz, is an easy listen and brings quality attention back to cult-favorite entertainers such as Tara Reid and Jennifer Coolidge.
Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade: Fans of Saturday Night Live and especially the 1990s cast of it will adore this comedian-driven podcast hosted by Dana Carvey and David Spade. The pair have one rule when it comes to their guests. Each one must have been a cast member or host of the quintessential late-night television show.
BONUS RECOMMENDATION – Be Kind Rewind: While not a podcast, Be Kind Rewind is a fantastic YouTube channel that clearly puts in incredible hours and amounts of effort to produce quality content for fans of cinema, actresses, and pop culture. Visit her channel to find videos on Dolly Parton, Myrna Loy, Jane Fonda, and more.
Take these recommendations and be sure to let us know if you end up discovering a new favorite!
